Homeowner in San Ramon, CA
We looked for a garage door spring hinge replacement. The door is fire-rated, measuring 80”H × 30”W × 1-¾” thick and weighing less than 150 lbs.
It currently uses three 4"×4" hinges with a 5/8” radius, finished in US32D (satin stainless steel). We need a soft-closing hinge solution to prevent slamming.
Recommended Garage Door Hinges Replacement
Per building codes, a fire-rated door CANNOT go with a hold open feature.
Please do not include a hold-open since it is prohibited to the fire rated door according to the code.
Recommended Model:
We recommend the K51M-400-B3-58R – a 4"×4" full-mortise hydraulic hybrid hinge with 5/8” radius templates configured for a 3-hinge setup suitable for fire-rated garage doors.
This model provides self-closing performance with a 304 satin stainless steel finish that complements the existing door hardware.

3pcs Hydraulic 4" Door Hinge 5/8" Radius Corner | Fire Rated | 7ft | SS304 | K51M-400-B3-58R
|
Model features:
-
304 stainless steel material for long-term use and durability
-
Hydraulic soft closing system for anti-slamming]
-
Adjustable closing force and speed
-
Fire-rated door hinges that met UL-listed 3 hours
Note:
Applicable for door openings up to 180°. Both mechanical and hydraulic hinges work best from 0–120°. However, if the door is opened from 120–180°:
-
Mechanical hinges: Hinges won’t break, but the door will slam because there is no speed/latch control in that range.
-
Hydraulic hinges: Repeated use beyond 120° will slowly damage the internal system.
